Did i buy the wrong type of earlobe earring stud?

I priced my earlobes 3 weeks ago, and today bought new black studs. Once i got home I gave them a looksie and they appear not to be the right studs. They don't have the proper ends on them, these screw on from the front. Says on the package Labret w/ blk ball 1.2 x 8 x 3. Looks like a lip or tongue stud.. i told the guy i was looking for an earring stud though. Did I buy the wrong type of earring?
